| The Safety,
Security and Access to Justice Programme
(SSAJP) is a major justice programme financed by the UK
Government and aimed at improving safety, security and access to
justice in order to prevent violent conflict in the Balkans.
The programme
started in November 2002 and
is currently scheduled to last until March 2006.
It covers Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia,
Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbia. The focus of the programme is on longer-term, sustainable institution and capacity building. The
programme is financed through the UK Government Balkans Conflict
Prevention Pool (CPP), a pool of money from the Department for
International Development (DFID), the Foreign and Commonwealth
Office, and the Ministry of Defence. The SSAJP part of the fund is
managed by DFID.
The
SSAJP provides consultancy advice and expertise. It is not intended
for equipment purchase, but may help recipient organisations access
funding from other donors. It is intended to complement the
